For as long as I can remember I wanted a guitar.
I bugged my parents every birthday and Christmas for one. I had to buy one myself, of course... God bless paper routes! I started playing at the age of fourteen. I was always into a variety of music, bowing at the altar of Iron Maiden, yet I still loved Michael Jackson. Thriller and Powerslave - an odd couple indeed. I think I wrote my first song walking home from school when I was seven or eight years old. It kinda came natural to me, but when I started playing guitar I was able to create more complete compositions. I started my first band in eigth grade - we had a playground hit called "Ned The Finger Painter". It was a tale of teenage angst and misanthropy. It was a bit of a self-portrait, though I didn't realize it at the time. I played in a few other bands with friends throughout high school, and honed my chops to the likes of Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax, and Black Sabbath. A little while later I discovered Dream Theater, and it changed my perception of music. They incorporated all the things I liked musically - metal, the blues, classical, psychedelia. They introduced me to other bands like Fates Warning, Rush, and Queensryche. Around the same time, I formed Desecrator right out of high school. I wanted to play metal but keep the boundaries open for other things. I've probably written over 100 songs for Desecrator. Some of them were recorded over the years on our various demos. The culmination of that is "Die For You...Dead Without You", Desecrator's first full-length, professionally produced album, recorded with master metal producer Alex Perialas (Anthrax, SOD, Testament, Overkill, etc). Buy it if you haven't already - only $10 plus shipping. It's worth it! I swear! The power of metal compells you!! GO NOW AND GET IT!!! http://www.desecrator.com/ In 2001, the members of Desecrator concocted a plan to start a cover band called Hard Rock Life. That was the blueprint for Two For Flinching. We got a chick singer and did some shows, eventually becoming Two For Flinching. Two For Flinching is something that I enjoy a lot. It encompasses a lot of the music that I enjoy - I get to put my influence on a lot of songs that influenced me. I mean, how can you go wrong with hard rock and 80's pop? It's the music of my childhood, after all. And we play Iron Maiden and Michael Jackson. |
